about

my story

I first heard the trombone as a kid sitting in rehearsals for George Dreyfus’ musical The Sentimental Bloke, and I knew then I wanted to play it. For better or worse, George held himself responsible and I’ve made it my mission not to disappoint.

style

My aim has been to push the reasonable limits of what people expect from brass. From studying baroque instruments, to Javanese gamelan, through to running brass through guitar effects and other electronics, I’ve constantly sought opportunities to make music differently.

Reggae, ska and punk are my musical home because of the freedom of expression and participation these genres embrace, but I’ve been a side-musician for artists across every possible genre, playing professionally throughout South America and across the Pacific

experience

As a musician in the tertiary education sector, I’ve been at the forefront of fostering artistic practice as research. I’ve taught at universities across Australia and New Zealand, and I’ve produced research tracking the role of popular music in sustaining and preserving cultural identity for Indigenous and migrant communities.

I’m actively involved in community music education, especially through my work with brass bands in regional Victoria.
